"I think everybody has one bad birthday in his life. And mine was 80. I didn't like getting there. And it was widely celebrated, as I might have expected it to be, by my family and friends. But, I felt like an old lady. And I had a hard time coming to terms with that."

"I think several things entered into my depression. One was that it lasted longer. Two was that it was emphasized by all the things that go with aging: (1) looks; (2) that awful thing we all worry about at almost any age -- memory; (3) diminished energy. And then, what I felt was most significant about the depression was a withdrawal from all the things that I had liked so much doing."

"I talked to a doctor who was also a psychiatrist. I made an appointment...was put on medication and they began to work, I would say, within two to three weeks and I was feeling immensely better."
